Albuquerque

Remember the Eagles song “Take it Easy” where he sings…

Well, I’m a standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona,
And such a fine sight to see
It’s a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed Ford
Slowin” down to take a look at me.

Since we stayed in Winslow, Arizona, we had to go down to stand on the corner.

Me, standing on the corner in Winslow, Arizona.
And here’s the flat-bed Ford.

Next stop was Albuquerque, New Mexico.  We went down to Old Town and walked through a few shops.

Lots of souvenir shops, but it’s New Mexico, in August, and blazing hot.

Since we were hungry, we stopped at the Church Street Cafe for some Mexican food.  The girls will always remember the belligerent, gay, homeless guy who was trying to get into the restaurant and was detained by the police.  The things that stick in their memories.  Too bad I didn’t think to get a photo of him.

We had time for one last adventure.  We took the Sandia Peak Tramway up to the top of the mountain outside of Albuquerque. We’ve been stretching Tess’s tolerance for adventure, and this just about hit her limit.  But she came through to conquer her fears and actually came to enjoy it.

This is one of the gondolas of the Sandia Peak Tramway.
That’s Albuquerque, and it’s just about sunset.
Sunset after we returned to the bottom. I didn’t think it rained in the desert, but we’ve run into so many lightening and rain storms the whole time we’ve been in the desert.

We stayed at Enchanted Trails RV Park.  Since it’s on historic Route 66, it got right into the theme with a collection of old RV’s.

You could even book a stay in these vintage trailers.
Even though this is a Winnebago trailer, it looks a lot like the Little Scotty trailer my mother used to have.

I took Katie and the girls to the airport so they could fly home.  I returned to the campground to clean out my RV and wash some clothes.  Next begins my trip home. I’ve been checking how many miles away home is.  Currently it’s 1,835 miles.

The office at Enchanted Trails had a Scottie that came in every day. I got homesick greeting him because he looks just like Pumpkin. This one, Wexie, did his best to ignore me.
