Today was a travel day, with lots of stops. Our first stop was Kodachrome Basin to hike the Shakespeare Arch trail. I had that Paul Simon song Kodachrome looping in my head “Baby don’t take my Kodachrome away.” It was a wonderful trail.
Blake was excited with the challenges and wanted to climb every rock we came across. Tess was not going to be outdone and really stretched her usual limits.
Shakespeare Arch fell in April. But the hike gave us beautiful vistas, lots of red rocks and a challenging hike.
Next stop was Brice Canyon where we hiked Mossy Trail. We hiked along a creek up to a waterfall with all the red hoodoos of Brice towering above.
Third hike was Belly of the Beast. This was a weird one. When we talked to a local about it, he scoffed and said he didn’t understand why everyone got all excited about a drainage ditch, but this one was so cool. It was short enough that the girls thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a cave that bent just enough to hide the other end. And there were plenty of rocks for the girls to climb. The walls were covered with modern American petrogylphs (as opposed to ancient Indian ones).
