Today we have another boat ride. This one was the Western Brook Pond boat ride in the Gros Morne National Park in Newfoundland. To get to the boat dock, we needed to hike 2 miles across coastal bogs.
First of all, here in Newfoundland, they call a lake a pond. And this pond is a fjord cut by glaciers. But the land grew around the end of it, cutting it off from the ocean. Most of the lake is high, steep cliffs plunging into the lake. We were scheduled at 11am for the tour, but it rained all morning. We rescheduled for 3pm, but as you can see from the photos, the clouds hadn’t cleared out yet.
There were so many waterfalls on these walls and they were really helped the morning rain.
This waterfall is really named Pissing Mare Waterfall and it’s the highest waterfall in Newfoundland. It’s two part, the higher falling over the edge and widespread, then hitting the rocks below to condense into a stream.
This was an interesting formation. When there is a crack in the rock, it erodes in what look like steps.
