Portland

I spent the last 3 days visiting with my daughter and her family in Portland, Oregon.  I haven’t been to Portland since 2019 because of COVID.  It was nice to get back to the Northwest – it’s such a favorite place of mine.

We had lunch and dinner in various places.  The first was to Portland Mercado, an initiative to promote all types Latin American food – Oaxacan, Costa Rican, Yucatecan, Peruvian, Cuban, Colombian, and Argentine food trucks.  It was hard to choose.

Portland Mercado.  This yucca-looking plant is in bloom everywhere. So impressive.
So many choices.
The next day we went to McMenamins at the old Edgefield Hotel.
I saw this sign in the Vietnamese Pho restaurant we went to that night. Cute.

Yesterday was a fun day because we first went to Portland’s Farmers Market.  Other farmer markets don’t even come close to the quality of this one.

Their vegetables displays are like art.
Raspberries, marionberries, blueberries and strawberries are in season right now.
Lavender – the smell is so heavenly.
These tomatoes definitely came under the title of weird. Like what is that green thing coming out of the top?
Elaina and Camille enjoyed some monster croissants. I found some gluten-free scones.
Pat was working very close by so we stopped in to say hello.

After the Farmer’s Market we went to the Saturday Market under the Hawthorne Bridge.  It’s a combination arts and craft festival and flea market.  Just a little bit of everything.

VIew across the Williamette River of the Steel Bridge and the Rose Quarter with the Convention Center.

Then today, I started back on the road again, this time with my daughter.

Time to say goodbye. My daughter, granddaughters and me.

We drove the beautiful Santaim Highway across the Cascades with spectacular mountain, lake and river views.  We stopped at Silver Falls along the way.

The cool thing about Silver Falls is that you can walk behind the falls. See the fence and people above the green, about halfway up.

The mountain views along the route were incredible. This is Mount Washington.
