Prince Edward Island

We are already in Prince Edward Island.  What a charming island.  The island is gently rolling hills, well suited for agriculture.  They grow lots of potatoes here.  They are also proud that the author of Anne of Green Gables grew up here.

Our first night here we saw the “Anne of Green Gables” musical in Charlottetown, PEI.  It was a very well done play with lots of singing, dancing and beautiful costumes.

Anne and her friend Diane down in front.

The next day we took a bus trip around the island.

We stopped at the wharf in Rustico.
There are many National Parks along the northern coast. This was Prince Edward National Park with it red cliffs.
We also toured the Green Gables house which was the inspiration when Lucy Maud Montgomery wrote the book “Anne of Green Gables”. Lucy was brought up by her grandparents down the road but spent a lot of time here as it was owned by her grandfather’s first cousin.
A closer look. The tree was what she called SnowQueen for all it’s white flowers that fell like snow.
The kitchen – they tried to keep it to the same time period as the book.
This is a recreation of what Anne’s bedroom would have looked like. The dress hanging on the door was the one with the puffy sleeves that she wanted.
Tourist shot. There were lovely gardens at the place we had lunch.
We went to an interesting place called the Old Bank Building. It was beside the water. There is another of those outdoor ovens for baking. Our interpreter whipped up some buttermilk biscuits while we churned fresh butter. The things in the water is a mussel farm.
That night we had a lobster dinner at Fisherman’s Wharf in Rustico. This is a 22 pound lobster once caught. I had Mike put his hand up there so you could imagine it’s size.
This is what our electric pole looks like at the campground. Of course we brought them to a grinding halt like we’ve done in most of the campgrounds we put into. This is the setup for only 4 rigs, each with their giant surge protector and adapters and cords.
