We stopped on-route at Castle in the Clouds (Lucknow Mansion) in the Ossipee Mountains of Moultonborough, NH. This was the country home of a shoe magnate, Tom Plant. The home sits on the side of a mountain and has beautiful views of Lake Winnipesaukee.
In the parking lot was the best fall foliage of this entire autumn harvest trip – this maple.
The house was interesting. They had innovative showers for their time – something called the needle shower. Only the men used it as women were considered to fragile to withstand the “needles” of water.
On the grounds were several hiking trails. I followed the one where there were 7 different waterfalls. “Waterfall” was stretching it a bit for some of them, but it was a very nice hike through the woods, along a river.
