Missoula Montana

I haven’t had much to post since our activity was driving through beautiful mountains along side mountain streams.  And since I’m driving, I can’t take photos.  Four days ago, we drove over Big Hole Summit (7409 feet) and Chief Joseph Summit (7600 feet) to stay in Missoula, Montana for 3 nights.  Today we drove through Lolo Pass and we are staying in Lewiston, Washington for 3 nights.  In both cases, it’s a long winding climb to the top and and back down, with maximum speeds between 35-45 miles per hour.  It’s breathtaking beautiful, but also a very exhausting, long drive.

In Missoula, we were very near Traveler’s Rest State Park.  Of the 600+ camps set up by Lewis and Clark on their trips across the United States, this is the only archaeologically verified campsite.

This historian dressed in 2 different outfits. He explained that the archeologist found the latrine, split rocks from camp fires, a button and a blue bead. Lewis and Clark used this site both on the way out to the ocean (Sept 1805) and also on the return trip (June 1806).

In Missoula, we stayed at Jim and Mary’s RV Park.  It has been my favorite campground of this whole trip.  There was space between the rigs and my favorite, plenty of shade.  It was a perfect 80 degrees for our stay.  We are travelers like Lewis and Clark, so we also took a much needed rest.

Those 2 pine trees seemed like they were only 8 feet apart when I was trying to back into this site.

They kept the grounds immaculate and well landscaped.

They grew their flowers in a greenhouse, then had beds all through the campground.
My favorite.

Since I don’t have lots of beautiful mountain and stream photos to share, I thought I’d introduce you to some of the dogs on this trip.  About half the people travel with with dogs, and there are a few cats as well.

This is Joyce and her 3 chihuahuas.
This is Dottie’s Schnauzer. He also has an older brother.
Here we have a co-pilot who looks like he means business.
And finally, here’s Nugget.

Our campground tonight is Hell’s Canyon, where the Clearwater joins with the Snake River.

That’s not even a real fish – it’s wooden.
They have interesting sidewalk art here at the campground. It looks like we’re getting close to the ocean.
Is that how it works?

One last photo, this looks like a sunset, but it’s due north.  That’s Idaho across the river.  Anyway, it’s beautiful.

Good night.
