WWI Museum

I’ve been driving for a couple of days.  The first night we stayed in Arrow Rock, MO, a beautiful old pioneer town very near the Missouri River.  The Missouri River is important here because it’s the river Lewis and Clark followed upstream, and so are we.  Then we drove to Lawrence, Kansas, just west of Kansas City.

Our first stop was a big Lewis and Clark statue.  My favorite is the dog, Seaman, a Newfoundland.

Lewis and his dog, Seaman, a Newfoundland.

Next stop was the World War I Museum.  Not my first choice…  I made the best of it and will show you first the weird, then some interesting patterns.

This is a British PH anti-gas helmet, which was impregnated with a anti-poison gas chemical.
In this case, the “walking wounded” were injured soldiers still able to walk, and not those among us who barely function.
Don’t you just love a man in uniform?
And don’t forget the women had a big part as well.

Now for some interesting patterns…

Bandage rolls.
Knives and swords.
And you can’t forget the guns.
Interestingly, these were badges from those who worked in an ammunition factory.

All this and more at the World War I museum, overlooking downtown Kansas City.

WWI Museum is flanked by 2 sphinxes with their eyes shrouded. Memory shields her eyes from the horrors of the past, Future shields her eyes from the future because it cannot be seen.
